GiGi’s Playhouse of Hillsborough opened its doors to the community on January 11, 2015. Since that day we have welcomed over 300 families from throughout New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania who have made us a part of their lives. As the only location in New Jersey, we have made a lifetime commitment to offer support from diagnosis through adulthood, to build confidence, and to send a global message of acceptance for all, while changing the way the world sees Down Syndrome. The Hillsborough location is part of a national and international movement to build acceptance, inclusion, and achievement for those with special needs, including Down Syndrome and Autism. There are over 61 centers throughout the United States and Mexico. Our Purpose: To change the way the world views Down syndrome and other disabilities to send a global message of acceptance for all. Our Mission: We make a lifetime commitment to changing lives and providing hope through the consistent delivery of FREE educational, therapeutic, and career development programs for individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the community, using a replicable playhouse model. Our Vision: To see a world where individuals with Down syndrome are accepted and embraced in their families, schools, and communities. Our Promise: A lifetime commitment to families. Our success relies on the collaboration and partnerships within the greater Hillsborough area. We are reaching out to local businesses, corporations, and community organizations to join us on this journey that enables us to give the opportunities of a lifetime to these special individuals and families.
Laurie Anne Roemmele, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of Gigi's Playhouse in Hillsborough. She has her doctorate in Organizational Development and Management. Her past research and experiences have enabled her to be adept at discerning an organization’s strengths and challenges using a holistic approach, and by examining the entire organization’s culture, structure, and capabilities. She is now in her 30th year of consulting, as well as a part-time or full-time leader. Dr. Roemmele’s company, PEQ,Inc. has facilitated a wonderful career working with over 80 non profit agencies, school districts, and the public sector (County, State, and municipal government) throughout New Jersey, New York, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. She is quite humbled by the numerous accolades she has received regarding her entertaining and professional presentation skills as a trainer/facilitator. She is also passionate about all the projects in which she is engaged, and therefore, participants and clients are always intrigued and motivated to learn while making great changes in their respective organizations. Dr. Roemmele attended Washington University in St. Louis; Cornell University; and Fielding Graduate University. She always makes sure to tell others that each of those universities provided some of the best years of her life. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was chosen to be a member Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She has been given several Alumni Awards from both Washington University and Cornell University. She was elected as part of the Wall of Fame at Bloomfield High School, NJ; 40 Under 40 by NJ BIZ magazine, as well as a recipient of the Garden State Magazine Women Leaders. Most recent, she was elected as a Board Member of the Cornell University Alumni Association and as a Mentor for the Washington University in St. Louis Alumni and Parents Organization. She has also experienced tremendous success as a grant writer; fundraiser; strategic planner; team-building specialist; curriculum and evaluation expert; Board development consultant; and coach to many local and state leaders. She has worked as an evaluator for the NJ Departments of Education and Labor and Workforce Development, United Way, and other funders to ensure their investment is producing significant outcomes. She continually looks forward to working with organizations as a true collaborator in service to others.
